Sleep Benefits of the Fabric | Blog |Foxford
It’s personal

Let’s face it how we sleep and the comfort level of how we sleep is personal! You could be a cool sleeper or a hot sleeper, but everyone wants and needs different things from their sheets at night. Choosing the right type of fabric could be the key in getting the holy grail of sleeps – undisturbed from sweat/chills during the night and waking up warm and comfortable.

Hot or Cold

Are you a hot sleeper and find yourself waking up in the middle of the night sweating? Or, are you a cold sleeper and constantly wake up trying to find more blankets to get warmer? Whether you are a hot or cold sleeper, quality of sleep is directly linked to your body temperature and whether you can maintain a quality core temperature during the night. Good quality bedding and the type of fabric can help with this.

Did You Know

As  your bedtime approaches, your body temperature drops, right around the same time your body releases that sleepy hormone melatonin. During sleep, your body temperature continues to drop, then gradually warms up as the morning progresses. Disturbances in your body temperature (whether up or down) can cause us to wake and as a result we experience broken sleep. That is why it is important to keep your bedroom at the right temperature, take a shower or bath before bed can be helpful and avoid any excess fatty foods or caffeine at night. Then the important step of choosing the correct bedding comes into play.

The Fabric

We at Foxford create our bedding in many different fabrics. But the most important element of them all is they are all 100% cotton which is so important as Cotton will absorb the heat from your body throughout the night, allowing you to stay cool. As well as keeping you cool in the summer, cotton sheets will keep you warm throughout winter by absorbing and retaining your body heat.

Extra Layer

If you do reach for extra layers while you sleep please be mindful not to use synthetic materials in your blankets or throws. Remember wool is a natural insulator. It keeps your body’s warmth naturally and traps it and doesn’t overheat like synthetic materials would and make you sweaty. So if you do enjoy reaching for extra layers at night and still want to remain comfortable and not too hot or sweaty than we recommend choosing one of our wool throws. We have designed the core range to match perfectly with each season’s bedlinen range. You can browse our range of lambswool throws here
